José Antonio Carmona Carmona, born on October 23, 1944 in Granada, Spain, was a Spanish flamenco guitarist known professionally as Pepe Habichuela. He moved to Madrid in 1964, where he performed in several flamenco venues and performed with artists such as Camarón de la Isla and Enrique Morente. With the latter, he recorded Homenaje a D. Antonio Chacón (1977), which earned the Premio Nacional de Discografía in 1975. Subsequent releases include Habichuela en rama (1997), Yerbagüena (2001), and Hands (2010). He received the Spanish Ministry of Culture’s Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts in 2018. He passed away on August 4, 2026.
