Kaotic Chemistry is a United Kingdom–based breakbeat hardcore and early jungle project associated with 2 Bad Mice, formed in 1991 by Sean O’Keeffe, Simon Colebrooke, and Rob Playford, the latter of whom founded the Moving Shadow record label. The trio began experimenting with music in 1990 using Playford’s home studio and issued their first EP, Five in One Night, in 1991. In 1992, the project released L.S.D. EP, a key release in the formative jungle scene that helped establish their reputation for complex breakbeat programming. After a period of reduced activity following the decline of the early hardcore scene, the Kaotic Chemistry name was revived in 2021 with the release of 25 Years of Metalheadz – Part 3. Throughout their history, Kaotic Chemistry recordings have been closely associated with Moving Shadow, and chart activity linked to the members’ work under 2 Bad Mice included UK singles such as "Hold It Down", which reached Number 48 in February 1992, and "Bombscare", which peaked at Number 46 in September 1996. The group’s legacy remains connected to the early 1990s UK rave movement and to the later revival of the Moving Shadow catalogue through the Over/Shadow imprint launched in 2020.
