Mala Punica, an international vocal-instrumental ensemble specialized in the performance of medieval music, was founded in 1987 and led by flutist Pedro Memelsdorff, specialized in the interpretation of Ars subtilior Italian music. The group's album, Ars Subtilis Ytalica, was released in 1994 under Arcana Records. This was followed by several notable releases, including D'Amor ragionando (1995), En attendant (1996), and Missa Cantilena (1997), which featured contrafactures liturgiques from Italy between 1380-1410. In 1998, they released Sidus Preclarum, an integral collection of motets by Johannes Ciconia. The ensemble continued to produce significant works such as Hélas Avril (2000), Narcisso Speculando (2002), and Faventina (2007). Their contributions have been recognized through various recordings, including those on Erato and Harmonia Mundi labels.
