Man Is the Bastard was an American hardcore punk band from Claremont, California, formed in 1990. The group consisted of Eric Wood, Joel Connell, Henry Barnes, and Aaron Kenyon. Known as a pioneer of the powerviolence movement, the band utilized two bass guitars, dual vocals, and electronic noise instruments created by Barnes. Their discography includes the albums Sum of the Men: "The Brutality Continues..." (1991) and Thoughtless... (1995). The band's lyrics addressed political themes such as animal rights and police brutality. Man Is the Bastard disbanded in 1997, and the members moved to projects including Bastard Noise and Controlling Hand.
