Josh Arcoleo is a British jazz saxophonist and composer born in 1989 in Guildford, England. He was raised in a musical family and began studying the cello at age seven before switching to the saxophone at age ten. At age 13, he began studying under Pee Wee Ellis and later performed in the bands Assembly and Still Black Still Proud. Arcoleo attended the Royal Academy of Music and graduated in 2011, earning the Yamaha Jazz Scholarship and the Kenny Wheeler Jazz Award. In 2012, he released his debut studio album, Beginnings, through the label Edition Records. He was nominated for several awards that year, including Best Newcomer at the Jazz FM Awards. Arcoleo is a founding member of the ensemble Native Dancer, which issued the album Tides in 2020. Throughout his career, he has toured with Kit Downes and performed with acts including Stan Sulzmann’s Big Band, the Jeff Williams Quartet and Jasper Høiby’s trio. He has also contributed to recordings by artists such as snowpoet, Jacob Collier and the James Taylor Quartet.
