Impaled, an American death metal band from Oakland, California, formed in 1996. The original lineup consisted of guitarist Sean McGrath, drummer Raul Varela, guitarist Jared Deaver, and bassist Ron Dorn. The first demo, Septic Vomit (1997), was recorded. In 1998, Leon del Muerte joined as lead vocalist; with the departure of Deaver, del Muerte later took on second guitar duties. They released the second demo, From Here to Colostomy (1999), which gained them recognition. The debut full-length album, The Dead Shall Dead Remain (2000), was released, followed by tours with Nile and Incantation. Subsequent albums include Mondo Medicale (2002), Death After Life (2005), The Last Gasp (2007), and The Dead Still Dead Remain (2013). Notable collaborations include splits with Cephalic Carnage, Engorged, and Haemorrhage. They explored medical horror themes and a melodic death metal style. Another notable release is the EP Medical Waste (2002).
