Charles Bruffy

Charles Bruffy is an American choral conductor born in 1958. He studied piano at Missouri Western State College and vocal performance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After performing as a tenor soloist with the Robert Shaw Festival Singers, he became artistic director of the Kansas City Chorale in 1988 and served as Chorus Director of the Kansas City Symphony Chorus from 2008 to 2025. His recordings include Alexander Gretchaninov's Passion Week, Sacred Choral Works of Josef Rheinberger, Spotless Rose, Life and Breath: Music of René Clausen, and Rachmaninoff: All-Night Vigil. Bruffy won three Grammy Awards, receiving the award for Best Small Ensemble Performance in 2008 and Best Choral Performance in 2012 and 2015. He also commissioned works by composers including Ola Gjeilo, Eric Whitacre, and Chen Yi.
