Ensemble Venance Fortunat is a professional French vocal group dedicated to medieval music and solo chant. Directed by Anne-Marie Deschamps, the ensemble was officially created in 1980, though its activity began in 1975, and was founded by Marie-Noëlle Colette. The group gained recognition for its interpretation of neumatic notation and research into medieval solo chant. Its discography includes approximately twenty recordings, such as Chants des voûtes cisterciennes (1990), Chants mystiques des abbayes cisterciennes (1999), and Missa de Angelis (2003). The ensemble collaborated with contemporary composers, including François Werken, Michel Sendrez, and Claire Schapira, to perform polyphonic vocal pieces centered on Gregorian themes. Deschamps also established educational workshops focused on medieval music and vocal technique, which influenced the formation of other vocal ensembles.
