Wolfgang Friedrich Rübsam, born on October 16, 1946 in Gießen, Germany, is a German-American organist, composer, and pianist. He received his first organ lessons from Erich Ackermann at Fulda Cathedral and later studied with Robert T. Anderson, Marie-Claire Alain, and Helmut Walcha. Rübsam's breakthrough came when he won the Grand Prix de Chartres in 1973, becoming the first German organist to achieve this honor. He subsequently held professorships at Northwestern University from 1974 and the Saar University of Music from 1997 to 2011. Rübsam has recorded over 130 albums, including Bach's organ works and other notable composers such as Dieterich Buxtehude and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. He has also contributed to various music publications and served as a juror at international organ competitions.
