The Drones, an English punk rock band from Manchester, England, formed in 1975 as Rockslide. The group initially released a single titled "Roller Coaster" under that name before reinventing themselves as The Drones and transitioning to punk rock. Their debut performance was at the Houldsworth Hall, Manchester, with Generation X as support. The band relocated to London and became one of the pioneering acts at the Roxy Club. They released their debut EP Temptations of a White Collar Worker in 1977, followed by the single "Bone Idol" that same year and their debut album, Further Temptations. The band supported notable acts like The Stranglers and appeared on influential compilation albums such as Streets and Short Circuit: Live at the Electric Circus. Lead singer Michael Howells died on January 10, 2013, followed by drummer Peter Howells on December 22, 2019. They reformed in 2015 with original members Steve "Whispa" Cundall and Gary "Gus" Callendar, joined by Martin Smith and Glenn Jones. Following further lineup changes in 2017, the band released the EP Will You Stand in Front of Bullets? on their Idle Records label in 2018.
