Giuseppe Baldassare Sammartini, also known as Giuseppe Sammartini, born on January 6, 1695, in Milan, was an Italian composer and oboist. He learned to play the oboe from his father, Alexis Saint-Martin. By 1720, he had joined the orchestra of the Ducal Court in Milan. In 1727, Sammartini moved to London and gained a strong reputation as an interpreter. He played with the King's Theatre orchestra under George Frideric Handel and Giovanni Bononcini. From 1736 until his death, he served as the master of music to the wife and children of Frederick, Prince of Wales. Sammartini’s compositions spanned both Baroque and Classical periods, including concertos for harpsichord and organ influenced by Handel. Giuseppe Sammartini passed away in November 1750 in London.
