Watergate was a German electronic music project initiated in the late 1990s by producers David Haid, Tommaso De Donatis, and Orhan Terzi, who was also known as DJ Quicksilver. The group achieved immediate success with its debut single, "The Battle" (1998), a cover of the 1977 Wings song "Mull of Kintyre" that reached number 20 in Germany and number 26 in Austria. In 1999, the project followed with "Maid of Orleans (The Battle II)" from the Watergate EP—a new version of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's 1982 song "Maid of Orleans (The Waltz Joan of Arc)"—which charted in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Later that year, the group released its studio album, The World of Watergate (1999). The album's single, "Heart of Asia" (1999), which was based on the music from the film Furyo – Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, reached the top 30 in Germany and Switzerland, and peaked at number 3 on the UK charts in 2000. Although the project ended during this period, the single "Neverending Dream" (2003)—a cover of X-Perience's 1996 song—was released under the collaborative name Mythos n' Watergate (featuring Mythos, aka Alexander Kilb) and briefly charted at number 68 in Germany.
