The McAuley Schenker Group, an American hard rock band, was formed in 1986 and disbanded in 1993. The group was founded by German guitarist Michael Schenker and Irish singer Robin McAuley. After disbanding his previous band, the Michael Schenker Group, due to personal and health reasons, Schenker sought a new partner for his next project. With the help of Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker, he found McAuley, who had gained popularity as part of the Far Corporation and with the cover version of "Stairway to Heaven". The band was completed with guitarist Mitch Perry, bassist Rocky Newton, and drummer Bodo Schopf. Their debut album, Perfect Timing, was released in 1987, followed by a Japan tour supporting Whitesnake. In 1988, Mitch Perry was replaced by Steve Mann on rhythm guitar and keyboards. The band's second album, Save Yourself, was released in 1989 and featured the single "Anytime", which charted in the US. Internal conflicts led to the departure of Schopf, Mann, and Newton by 1990, with Jeff Pilson on bass and James Kottak on drums joining as replacements. The third album, MSG, was completed in 1991 but initially shelved by their label. During this period, McAuley and Schenker embarked on an acoustic promotion tour, leading to the release of the EP Nightmare - The Acoustic M.S.G. In 1992, MSG was finally released, followed by a live album, "Unplugged" Live, in September. The band disbanded shortly after their final tour in 1993.
