GAKU-MC, born on October 6, 1970, is a prominent Japanese rapper and musician known for his unique style of rapping while playing the guitar. He is not only a solo artist but also a part of the unit Ukasukaji with Kazutoshi Sakurai from Mr. Children. He has been a central figure in the hip-hop unit EAST END, which is currently on hiatus, and is the senior member of the RHYMESTER-led FUNKY GRAMMAR UNIT. Born in Tokyo and a Temple University graduate, GAKU-MC began his music career in high school when he formed EAST END with his classmates in 1990. After disbanding EAST END in 1998, he published an autobiographical novel and soon embarked on a solo music career in 1999. Over the years, he has been known for integrating his personal experiences into his rap, marking his style as authentically heartfelt. GAKU-MC is also recognized for his philanthropic efforts, notably his participation in volunteer activities in Miyagi Prefecture following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.
