Butterglory was an American indie rock band from Lawrence, Kansas, formed in 1992 by Matt Suggs and Debby Vander Wall. The band emerged alongside contemporaries such as Pavement and Archers of Loaf and became known for its melodic, lo-fi-influenced indie rock. Butterglory began with the Alexander Bends EP in 1992 before signing with Merge Records. The label released their debut album, Crumble, in 1994, followed by the singles collection Downed in 1995. With bassist Stephen Naron and other musicians joining the lineup, the band expanded its sound on Are You Building a Temple in Heaven? (1996), followed by their final album, Rat Tat Tat (1997). After the band's run ended, Matt Suggs continued his musical career with White Whale.
