Unexpect (also stylized as uneXpect and unexpecT) was a Canadian avant-garde extreme metal band from Montreal, Quebec, active from 1996 to 2015. Founded by guitarists and vocalists Syriak and Artagoth, the group became known for its eclectic sound, blending progressive, death, black, and melodic metal with influences from classical, medieval, opera, gypsy jazz, electronic, ambient, noise, and circus music. Unexpect independently released its debut album, Utopia (1999), followed by the EP wE, Invaders (2003), In a Flesh Aquarium (2006), and Fables of the Sleepless Empire (2011). In a Flesh Aquarium won the Independent Music Awards Vox Pop vote for Best Hard Rock/Metal Album. The band announced its dissolution in 2015.
