Ex‑Easter Island Head is an English experimental music collective formed in Liverpool in 2009. It was led by Benjamin D. Duvall, who pioneered the use of prepared tabletop guitars to create rhythmic, percussive textures. Their breakthrough came with the 2010 release Mallet Guitars One, followed by Mallet Guitars Two / Music for Moai Hava in 2012 and Mallet Guitars Three in 2013, each gaining critical acclaim in The Wire and Pitchfork. Subsequent albums Large Electric Ensemble (2014), Twenty‑Two Strings (2016) and the 2024 album Norther under Rocket Recordings solidified their reputation, with Norther topping The Quietus 2024 year‑end list. Collaborations with Charles Hayward and others expanded their reach, while live performances at The Independent and The Guardian highlighted their evolving sound. In 2025, the band contributed an interpretation of the track "Alone" to Mixes of a Lost World, a remix album by the Cure.
