SYBAX was founded in 2010 by Sylvain TOURGIS and Sébastien TRIGODET.
The band started in the Post-Rock movement. It recorded its first album “456 miles in 90s” in March 2010. The basic format of post-rock (bass-drums-guitars) is enriched with samples, especially vocals, and synthesizers on several tracks.
The single “Sybarite” was released in June 2012. The use of programming, already present on the first album, becomes more massive, and will intensify over the group’s productions, giving its music an ambient, electro or trip-hop hue, depending on the songs.
In June 2013, SYBAX released its second album “Spell Caster”, in which we find the song ‘sybarite' in a new version. Jazz saxophonist Patrick LEGOUPIL is supporting the song ’the old man’.
At the beginning of 2015, Sébastien TRIGODET left the project.
Sylvain TOURGIS calls on Julien FOUREL, drummer, who participates in the following album entitled “The Darkest Hour is Before The Dawn”, whose release takes place in January 2016. On the song ‘pyrrhosoma’, plays bassist and sound engineer Sylvain LEGENDRE. To emphasize that the cover of the album, made like all those of the band by Sylvain TOURGIS, was designed from a photo of Manuel CHEVE.
This will also be the case for the EP “Emotional Day” which is published in January 2017.
In March 2018, SYBAX, now composed solely of Sylvain TOURGIS, published 'dictator', a piece accompanied by a video, based on the famous speech of Charlie CHAPLIN at the end of the film The Great Dictator.
The fourth SYBAX album was released in February 2019. Sylvain TOURGIS continues his exploration of electronic music in “Cornelia”. Guitars are rarer. Some songs are entirely designed by MAO.
In 2019, the band’s new line-up: Josselin CHÂTEL, joined SYBAX as a bassist, to work on new versions of some of the last two albums' titles, such as ‘weakness’, ‘reflexion’, or ‘R-Mi’.
Sylvain TOURGIS and Josselin CHÂTEL meet again in 2021. New songs are created. The bass brings an organic side, even noisy to the electro atmospheres.
The release of a new album, named “I Almost Had Everything” is scheduled for early 2022.
