Einar Steen-Nøkleberg, born on April 25, 1944, in Østre Toten, Norway, is a Norwegian pianist. He studied under Nicolai Dirdal and Hans Leygraf, gaining recognition with his interpretation of Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto, which earned him the Norwegian Press Prize in 1975. His recording of the same work was acclaimed by the BBC as one of the best available. Steen-Nøkleberg performed internationally with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Danish Orchestra, and the Warsaw Philharmonic. He began teaching at the University of Oslo in 1970 and later held professorships at the Norwegian Music Academy and the Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media. His discography includes over 50 recordings, featuring complete works by Grieg, Kjerulf, Sæverud, and Tellefsen, as well as compositions by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, and Chopin.
