Icon & the Black Roses, a Portuguese gothic metal band, was formed in 1999 under the name Blue Obsession. In their early years, they recorded a demo titled 4 Winter Songs, which secured them a deal with German record label Dark-Wings Records in 2001. This led to the release of their debut EP Lágrima in 2003. The band's self-titled debut album was released on June 15, 2004, and received critical acclaim, earning Icon & The Black Roses the award for Best New Act from LOUD magazine readers. Following this success, the band disbanded in 2004 due to personal reasons. They reunited in 2011 with a new lineup and released their second album, Thorns, in 2013. The album was recorded between Lisbon, London, and Alessandria and featured a heavier, more energetic sound. In 2025, the band released the EP Numinous.
