Edda Magnason is a Swedish singer-songwriter, pianist, and actress who was born as Edda Karin Hjartardóttir Magnason in Lövestad, Sweden, in 1984. She achieved early professional recognition in 2010 with her debut studio recording Edda Magnason and is famous for her eclectic musical style and for her portrayal of the jazz singer Monica Zetterlund in the film Waltz for Monica (2013). Magnason began composing for the piano as a child and transitioned to writing electronic pop music at age 16. Her discography includes the studio recordings Goods (2011) and Woman Travels Alone (2014), the latter of which reached number 27 on the Swedish charts. She also released the soundtrack recording Monica Z – Musiken från filmen (2013), which received a Swedish Gold certification. For her work in film and music, she has received the Ystad Culture Prize (2003) and the Guldbagge Award for Best Actress (2013).
