Jakub Hrůša, born July 23 1981 in the South Moravian Region of Brno, Czech Republic, emerged as a classical conductor and musical director after completing studies at the Brno Conservatory and advanced training in Prague. His early career featured conducting local orchestras and appearing on recordings such as Dvořák: Czech Suite, Waltzes, Polonaise (2006). Jakub Hrůša’s breakthrough came with the release of Martinů: Violin Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 – Bartók: Sonata for Solo Violin (2020), followed by recordings for the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, including Brahms: Symphony No. 4 – Dvořák: Symphony 9 "From the New World" (2018) and Bruckner: Symphony No. 9 in D Minor (2024). He collaborated with soloists such as Iona Bousfield and Slavko Kalamatianos, and led tours across Europe and North America. Jakub Hrůša received the Czech Music Council Award in 2019 and was named Conductor of the Year by Orchestral Review in 2022. In 2023, the album Liebestod – Wagner | Mahler | Strauss demonstrated his versatility in Romantic transcriptions. It was followed by the critically acclaimed Martinů: The Symphonies (2026), with the Bamberger Symphoniker, whose chief conductor he has been since 2016.
