Marcel Everett, conocido profesionalmente como XXYYXX, nació el 31 de octubre de 1995 en Orlando, Florida. Comenzó su carrera como productor de música electrónica, lanzando su mixtape debut Still Sound en 2011. A los 16 años, lanzó su álbum autotitulado XXYYXX, que incluía el notable tema"About You" y le ganó prominencia dentro de la cultura musical indie a finales de 2013. XXYYXX colaboró con varios artistas, incluyendo remezclas para"Let You Love Me" de Tinashe y"Climax" de Usher. En 2014, contribuyó con la canción"What We Want" a la reedición del videojuego Grand Theft Auto V en PC, Xbox One y PlayStation 4. Fue cabeza de cartel del Noise Pop Festival de San Francisco en febrero de 2013.
