Dear John Letter is a German post‑rock group founded in Augsburg in 2005 by members who had previously collaborated in other local bands. Their music has been influenced by Oceansize, Mogwai, and Led Zeppelin. The collective, named after the English term for a breakup letter, first released the EP 2007 in 2007, which gained rapid national attention through free online distribution and distinctive handmade artwork. In 2008, they issued the debut album Between Leaves | Forestal, featuring the track "Aventiure | Pearly Gates"; the release was followed by a partnership with the independent label Labelship, enabling vinyl distribution. Their second album, Part & Fragment, debuted in 2010.
