Mathis Mootz, known professionally as The Panacea, was born on August 18, 1976, in Wetzlar, Germany. He is a producer and DJ of electronic music, particularly drum and bass. Mootz received training in classical music and was a member of the Windsbach Boys' Choir. After studying music engineering at the SAE Institute, he worked with Chrome Records. The Panacea's breakthrough came in 1996 with dark drum and bass singles on Chrome Records, followed by debut albums Low Profile Darkness (1997) and Twisted Designz (1998), which blended tech step with industrial and digital hardcore. Mootz took over A&R duties for Chrome, later renamed Position Chrome. Throughout the 2000s, The Panacea released notable albums such as German Engineering (2001) and Chiropteran (2010). Despite a brief hiatus in 2004 due to distributor bankruptcy, Mootz relaunched Position Chrome.
