High Tide was an English rock ensemble from Northampton established in 1969. The group consisted of the vocalist and guitarist Tony Hill, the violinist and claviériste Simon House, the bassist Peter Pavli, and the drummer Roger Hadden. High Tide achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by tight compositions with changing time signatures and for Hill's vocal delivery being compared to the musician Jim Morrison. They achieved professional recognition for their first recordings being made as backing musicians for the musician Denny Gerrard on the studio recording Sinister Morning (1969). Their recording career included the debut studio recording Sea Shanties (1969) and the studio recording High Tide (1970). The ensemble became inactive in 1970 after Hadden was hospitalized following a mental breakdown during the recording of an unfinished third album. Hill achieved professional recognition for reviving the group name in the late 1980s and early 1990s with new personnel. Their discography included the studio recording Interesting Times (1986), the studio recording Precious Cargo (1989), and the studio recording A Fierce Nature (1990). The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Ancient Gates (1990) and the studio recording The Reason of Success (1991). Their recording career included the compilation recording The Flood (1990), the compilation recording Open Season (2000), and the box set The Complete Liberty Recordings (2023). Hill died on December 8, 2022. House died in 2025.
