Sun City Girls, an American experimental rock group, was formed in 1979 in Phoenix, Arizona, consisting of Alan Bishop on bass and vocals, his brother Richard Bishop on guitar, piano, and vocals, and Charles Gocher on percussion and vocals. The trio emerged from the local punk rock scene and quickly incorporated diverse musical elements into their sound, including jazz, surf music, and global influences from Asia, South America, Africa, and the Middle East. Their debut album, Sun City Girls, was released in 1984, followed by Grotto of Miracles in 1986. The group's extensive discography includes collaborations with artists like Eyvind Kang and Scott Colburn. Sun City Girls were known for their eclectic live performances, which often featured elaborate costumes and ritualistic elements. Charles Gocher passed away from cancer on February 19, 2007, leading to the group's disbandment.
