Kolinda, a Hungarian folk band, was formed in 1974 by Péter Dabasi, Iván Lantos, Ágnes Zsigmondi, and Ferenc Kiss. Inspired by Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály's collections of peasant songs, Kolinda blended traditional Hungarian music with contemporary poetry and jazz influences. Their debut album, Kolinda, was released in 1976 under the French label Hexagone. The band faced restrictions in Hungary due to their unique sound, which did not align with the state's promotion of national folk music. Kolinda relocated to France between 1976 and 1978, releasing three critically acclaimed albums before disbanding in 1979. After a hiatus, Péter Dabasi revived the name Kolinda for a new band in 1996, which later released several albums under the Pan-Label.
