James Clarence Wakely, born February 16, 1914, in Howard County, Arkansas, was a country singer whose career spanned radio, film, and records. He formed The Bell Boys in Oklahoma City and joined Gene Autry’s Melody Ranch in 1940, leaving later due to movie commitments. Wakely signed with Decca in the early 1940s, releasing singles like "I'm Sending You Red Roses," which hit number 2 on the US Hot Country Songs chart, and "Somebody's Rose." He later topped the same chart with the hits "One Has My Name (The Other Has My Heart)" and "I Love You So Much It Hurts." Wakely died on September 23, 1982, in Mission Hills, California. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1971 and the Western Music Association Hall of Fame in 1991.
