Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra (HSO) is a Swedish orchestra based in Helsingborg. Founded in 1911, it is one of Sweden’s oldest professional orchestras. The orchestra developed from the Helsingborg Music Society, which promoted classical music in the city during the late nineteenth century. Initially led by conductor Olof Lidner, the orchestra performed public concerts and symphonic programs throughout the region. HSO has worked with several notable chief conductors, including Okko Kamu, Hannu Lintu, Andrew Manze, Stefan Solyom, and Maxime Pascal, who became chief conductor in 2024. The orchestra has also gained international attention through recordings released on labels such as Naxos and Dacapo, including the successful Swedish Classics series. Supported by public funding and private supporters, the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra remains an important cultural institution in Sweden and continues to perform for audiences both nationally and internationally.
