Carlo Pietro Tagliabue, born on January 13, 1898, in Mariano Comense, Italy, was an Italian operatic baritone. His love for singing began in his youth after his father took him to performances at La Scala. Tagliabue studied music and singing under Corrado Mattioli, Leopoldo Gennai, and Annibale Ghidotti, making a professional debut in Lodi as Amonasro in Aida. In 1930, he debuted at La Scala in Tristan und Isolde. Tagliabue performed internationally at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Metropolitan Opera in New York City from 1937 to 1939, and the San Francisco Opera and Covent Garden in 1938. In 1934, he created the role of Basilio in Ottorino Respighi's opera La fiamma. His studio discography includes Cetra recordings of La forza del destino (1941) and Il trovatore (1951). Tagliabue made a final operatic appearance in Pagliacci at Forlì in 1962, and passed away on April 5, 1978.
