Articles of Faith, a hardcore punk band from Chicago, was formed in 1981 by vocalist and guitarist Vic Bondi, guitarist Joe Scuderi, bassist Dave Shield, and drummer Bill “Virus X” Richman. The band emerged from their earlier covers‑focused group Direct Drive and adopted a faster playing style after a Bad Brains concert. Their first EP, What We Want Is Free (1982), marked their breakthrough, followed by Wait (1983). The group released the full‑length In This Life (1986) and Core (1991), and the live album Your Choice Live Series (1995). The band was later featured on the documentaries American Hardcore and You Weren’t There: A History of Chicago Punk, 1977–1984.
