Alboran Trio, a jazz piano trio from Italy, was formed in 2005 and consisted of Paolo Paliaga on piano, Gigi Biolcati on drums and percussion, and Dino Contenti on double bass. The group's name is derived from the uninhabited Mediterranean island Alborán, located between Andalusia and North Africa, reflecting both a mystical atmosphere and the influence of various Mediterranean cultures. Their debut album, Meltemi, was released in 2006 by ACT Music and received positive reviews. In 2008, they followed up with their second studio album, Near Gale. The trio's style is notable for its equal emphasis on all instruments, drawing comparisons to the work of Bill Evans and Esbjörn Svensson Trio, as well as incorporating elements of Spanish and Arabic rhythms and melodies. In 2020, they released Islands through Pirames International/Siae.
