Alan Hacker

Alan Hacker, born on September 30, 1938, in Dorking, was a British clarinetist and conductor. After studying at Dulwich College and the Royal Academy of Music, he joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra from 1959 to 1966. In 1965, he was a founding member of the Pierrot Players, later the Fires of London, and in 1971, he established the ensemble Matrix. He premiered works by Harrison Birtwistle, Peter Maxwell Davies, and Morton Feldman, and founded the Classical Orchestra in 1977. He received an OBE in 1988 for services to music. He died on April 16, 2012, in London.
