The Lennon Sisters are an American vocal group formed in 1955 in Los Angeles, California, originally consisting of sisters Dianne, Peggy, Kathy, and Janet Lennon. The group made their national television debut on The Lawrence Welk Show on December 24, 1955, remaining regular performers on the show until 1968. During this period, they recorded for Dot Records, releasing the single “Sad Movies (Make Me Cry)” in 1961, which reached Number 1 in Japan and number 56 on the US Billboard Hot 100. They released studio albums including Lawrence Welk Presents The Lennon Sisters: Best-Loved Catholic Hymns in 1960 and Christmas with The Lennon Sisters in 1960. Following their departure from The Lawrence Welk Show, they starred in the television variety series Jimmy Durante Presents the Lennon Sisters Hour and completed a decade-long Las Vegas residency with Andy Williams. In 1999, Peggy retired from the group and was replaced by her younger sister Mimi. Dianne also departed, leaving Kathy, Janet, and Mimi to continue as a trio. The group received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1987, was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001, and received the Standard Award from the Great American Songbook Foundation in 2022.
