GUNIW TOOLS, a Japanese visual kei rock group formed in 1992, originated from the audio‑visual project Guniw created by vocalist and lyricist Tomo Furukawa in 1989. The band’s breakthrough came with the release of their debut album Niwlun on 24 April 1996 under Victor Entertainment’s Invitation label, accompanied by a VHS of self‑directed music videos that established the group’s DIY aesthetic. In 1997, the duo released Other Goose and the mini‑album Sparky, both of which peaked at number 40 and number 45 respectively on the Oricon Style Weekly charts, marking the highest chart positions of their career. After guitarist Masatomo Kawase (JAKE) departed, Asaki Yamahana assumed primary composition duties, leading to a shift toward electronic and industrial sounds evident in the single "DADA" and the albums Dazzle (21 August 1998) and Fickle Boon (21 October 1999). The band announced a hiatus in 2000 following the single "CULLUCOO VISION" and later reunited in 2014, issuing the single "Flare Up Stare" in June i 2015, the first original material in fifteen years. The group’s catalog remains influential within the visual kei scene, with multiple releases reissued by Victor in 2003 and continued live performances featuring former members.
