Gwyneth Jones

Gwyneth Jones, born on November 7, 1936, in Pontnewynydd, Wales, was a Welsh operatic soprano. She studied at the Royal College of Music in London and made her professional debut in 1962 as a mezzo-soprano in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice at the Opera House in Zurich.  In 1972, Jones debuted at the Metropolitan Opera as Sieglinde in Die Walküre and performed over ninety times at the Met. She was particularly noted for her performances in Wagnerian operas, including as Brunhilde at the Bayreuth Festival in 1976. Jones received numerous honors, including being named Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1986.
