Bikini Kill is an American punk rock and riot grrrl band from Olympia, Washington, formed in October 1990 by Kathleen Hanna, Kathi Wilcox, and Tobi Vail, who were joined shortly after by guitarist Billy Karren. The group first worked on a fanzine titled Bikini Kill before releasing their first cassette demo, Revolution Girl Style Now, in the spring of 1991. The band's breakthrough came with their self-titled EP, Bikini Kill, released in October 1992 on the independent label Kill Rock Stars, which was produced by Ian MacKaye of Fugazi. In September 1993, they released the single “New Radio”, which was produced by Joan Jett. Their debut studio album, Pussy Whipped, was released in October 1993, followed by the split EP Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah (1993) with Huggy Bear. Their second studio album, Reject All American, was released in April 1996. Although the group disbanded in 1997, they released the compilation The Singles (1998). In 2012, Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Singles among the 50 greatest albums of all time in the category “Women who rock”. The band reformed in the spring of 2019, with Erica Dawn Lyle replacing Karren on guitar.
