Born on November 21, 1984, in Friesach, Andreas Gabalier grew up as one of four children in the Styrian city of Graz. Tragic family events—most notably the suicides of his father and his only sister—shaped the life of the self-proclaimed “folk rock ’n’ roller” at a very early age and were later reflected in the song “Amoi seg’ ma uns wieder” (2014). But long before that—more precisely, while studying law—Andreas Gabalier began playing his first concerts, before his debut album Da komm’ ich her was released in 2009, reaching No. 4 on the Austrian charts and achieving five-time platinum status. His second album Herzwerk made it to the top of the charts. From then on, he repeated this feat regularly—with Volks-Rock’n’Roller (2011) and Home Sweet Home (2013), as well as with Mountain Man (2015) and Vergiss mein nicht (2018). All of these albums also enjoyed considerable success in Germany and Switzerland, earning Andreas Gabalier one platinum certification after another, as well as several Amadeus and ECHO Awards between 2012 and 2017. To mark his tenth anniversary on stage in 2019, he toured the entire DACH region, completely selling out massive venues such as the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna. Following that, the folk-pop star returned with the singles “Neuer Wind” (2020) and “LIEBELEBEN” (2021), in which he takes a stand against homophobia and racism. In 2022, he released the album Ein neuer Anfang, which took him to the top of the charts in Austria. In Germany and Switzerland, it reached No. 2. In August 2026, the singer returned with the album Handwerk – 10 Jahre Unplugged. In Austria, the album climbed to No. 2.
