Kawir, a Greek black metal band formed in Athens, was founded in 1993 by Thertonax. The band's early releases included the cassette Promo '93 featuring "Sinn - (The Blazing Queen)" and a split-EP with Japanese band Sigh. Kawir's first single, "Eumenides", featured Necroabysious from Varathron on vocals and Magus Wampyr Daoloth of Necromantia as producer. The group faced early setbacks due to lineup changes, but released their album Προς Καβείρους in 1996. Subsequent albums include Epoptia (1999) and Arai (2005). In 2007, Kawir signed with Those Opposed Records and released Ophiolatreia in 2008. The band is known for incorporating traditional Greek instruments and themes from ancient Greek mythology into their music.
