I.F.O. (Identified Flying Objects) was a collaborative music project formed in 1997 by German DJ WestBam and American hip-hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa. Bambaataa's voice previously appeared as an introduction to the track “The Wall” on WestBam's album The Cabinet (1989). Their single “Agharta, The City of Shamballa” was released in the late 1990s on the Electric Kingdom label, alongside the record “Free Me” by WestBam and Afrika Islam under the moniker Mr. X & Mr. Y. In the dystopian music video for the single, a group of people wanders on a devastated and contaminated Earth, and the duo points them toward Shamballa, a subterranean paradise. Bambaataa also addressed environmental pollution and the approaching millennium in other records around this time.
