Sontraud Speidel, born on March 30, 1944, in Karlsruhe, Germany, is a distinguished pianist and educator. She began piano studies at five and was accepted into Irene Slavin's class at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe at eleven. After high school, she studied with notable figures such as Yvonne Loriod, Branka Musulin, Stefan Askenase, and Géza Anda. Speidel's career was marked by awards including the first prize at the Johann Sebastian Bach International Piano Competition in Washington D.C., USA, and the Jackson Prize from the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Her recordings have appeared on over 50 CDs, featuring works by composers like Johann Sebastian Bach and Max Reger. She also notably performed at Palais Schaumburg in Bonn in 1979 and received honors such as the Silver Medal of Honor from the Vienna State Government in 2000 and the Federal Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2005.
