Bill Nelson's Red Noise

Red Noise was a short-lived British new wave project formed in 1979 by Bill Nelson following the breakup of Be-Bop Deluxe. Featuring musicians including Andy Clark, Ian Nelson, Rick Ford, and Dave Mattacks, the band embraced a more electronic sound than Nelson's previous work. Red Noise released the singles "Furniture Music" and "Revolt into Style", along with its only album, Sound-on-Sound (1979), which reached number 33 on the UK Albums chart and later gained acclaim for its innovative blend of new wave, science fiction themes, and synthesizers. Although a second album was recorded, it was never released after Harvest Records declined to issue it, and the group soon disbanded. Nelson resumed his solo career, occasionally reviving the Red Noise name, while Sound-on-Sound has since been reissued and is regarded as a pioneering work of late-1970s British new wave.
