Jonathan Biss is an American pianist who received his musical education at Indiana University and the Curtis Institute of Music under the guidance of Leon Fleisher. He made his New York recital debut at the 92nd Street Y in 2000 and performed with the New York Philharmonic the following year. In 2002, he became the first American selected for the BBC New Generation Artists scheme, later receiving a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award in 2003. Biss has appeared as a soloist with major orchestras worldwide and made his Carnegie Hall recital debut in 2011. A dedicated chamber musician and writer, he frequently collaborates with Mitsuko Uchida and serves as co-artistic director of Marlboro Music. His discography includes acclaimed releases such as Beethoven and Schumann: Piano Works (2004), Beethoven: Piano Sonatas (2007), and Schumann: Fantasiestücke and Kreisleriana (2007).
