Bakkushan, a German alternative‑rock group formed in Mannheim in June 2007 by Daniel Schmidt, Christian Kalle, Robert Kerner and Jan Siekmann, emerged from the students’ Popakademie Mannheim where Daniel Schmidt first wrote the demo EP Springwut that would launch the band. After a successful first tour of 40 concerts in 2008 and a win in the Jägermeister Rock: Liga Video Contest, the quartet signed with EMI Virgin Records in 2009 and released the single "Baby, du siehst gut aus" on 12 July 2009, followed by the debut album Bakkushan on 26 March 2010, which peaked at number 96 on the German charts. The band’s breakthrough single "Alles war aus Gold" preceded the album and later appeared in the film Vortstadtkrokodil 2. In 2010 they represented Baden-Württemberg at the Bundesvision Song Contest with "Springwut" and finished ninth with 39 points. After a second single "Lass die Sonne und mich allein" in July 2010, Bakkushan toured extensively across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Their sophomore album Kopf im Sturm was released on 13 July 2012, with the single "Nur die Nacht" reaching number 95 on the German album chart, and the band completed a national tour before concluding their activity in 2012.
