Trenches was an American metal band formed in 2007 in Indianapolis, Indiana, by former Haste the Day vocalist Jimmy Ryan. Alongside Ryan, the lineup consisted of guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist Joel David Lauver, guitarist Eli Larch Chastain, bassist Bill Scott, and drummer Phil Hook. The group made its live debut in Noblesville, Indiana, on November 24, 2007. They released their first studio album, The Tide Will Swallow Us Whole, on September 16, 2008, under Solid State Records, and made their national debut at the Cornerstone Festival that same year. After announcing a hiatus in 2010, the band reassembled in early 2012, releasing the independent single “The Death of All Mammoths” on August 4, 2016. In later years, they added drummer Dyllen Jerome Nance and guitarists Ross Montgomery and Carey Stilts to the lineup. The band released their second studio album, Reckoner, on January 1, 2022, before splitting up again in 2023.
