Yara Linss, born on June 13, 1980, in São Paulo, Brazil, is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and composer known for her work in jazz and Brazilian music, such as bossa nova, samba, MPB, xote, and choro. Born to a Brazilian mother and German father, she moved to Germany at the age of four and grew up in Ulm. Linss began her musical journey by learning violin and singing with the Ulmer Spatzen. She pursued jazz studies initially in Maastricht and later at the Hochschule für Musik in Nürnberg. In 2007, she represented Maria João at the Stimmenfang Festival Nürnberg, which led to a cultural scholarship from the city of Nuremberg with her quartet. In 2008, her debut EP, Yara Linss and Band, was released. She won the Bruno-Rother-Wettbewerb for Jazz Composition in 2009. Her second release, the album Poems, produced with pianist Peter Fulda, was presented in 2011.
