School of Fish was an American alternative rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1989. Founded by vocalist Josh Clayton-Felt and guitarist Michael Ward, the group initially performed as a duo before adding drummer Michael Petrak and bassist David Lipson. In 1990, the band signed with Capitol Records and released their first single on 7-inch vinyl. The group released the debut album School of Fish in 1991. It reached number 142 on the Billboard 200 and featured the recording “3 Strange Days”, which reached number 6 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. Following the 1993 album Human Cannonball, the group became inactive in 1994. Ward subsequently performed with John Hiatt and The Wallflowers. Clayton-Felt released the solo album Inarticulate Nature Boy (1996). Clayton-Felt died on January 19, 2000, and his estate released the posthumous album Spirit Touches Ground in 2002. Ward died on April 1, 2024. School of Fish became inactive in 1994.
