Cactus World News, an Irish rock band from Dublin, was formed in April 1984 by Frank Kearns on guitar and Eoin McEvoy on vocals. The initial lineup also included Wayne Sheehy on drums and Fergal MacAndris on bass. Their breakthrough came with the release of their first single "The Bridge", produced by Bono from U2 and released on Mother Records. In 1985, they toured the UK with The Cult and signed to MCA Records. Cactus World News released their debut album Urban Beaches in May 1986, which included the singles "Years Later", "Worlds Apart", and a re-recorded version of "The Bridge". All three singles charted in the UK. In 1989, they performed at the Self Aid concert in Dublin. However, before their second album No Shelter could be released, the band was dropped from their label and underwent several lineup changes. MacAndris and Sheehy left in 1989, with McEvoy and Kearns continuing for a few more years alongside various other members. In June 2011, it was announced that Cactus World News would reform to support Simple Minds in Kerry, Ireland. In February 2015, the band launched a PledgeMusic campaign for their album Found, a collection of rare and previously unreleased tracks.
