William Andrew Kinderman is an American musicologist and pianist who was born in 1952 in Philadelphia. He studied music and philosophy at Dickinson College and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna before pursuing musicology at Yale University and the University of California, Berkeley. Kinderman held professorships at the University of Victoria and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He later became a professor at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. As a researcher, he focuses on the work of composers including Beethoven, Mozart, and Wagner. His published books include Beethoven's Diabelli Variations (1987), Mozart's piano music (2006), and Beethoven: A Political Artist in Revolutionary Times (2020). Kinderman also composed the piano piece “Bee[t]h[ov]e[n]”. As a pianist, his recordings include interpretations of the works of Ludwig van Beethoven.
